What Can You Do to Help Beautify Kensington?
We have a number of initiatives underway to beautify Kensington.
- We are supportive of the 702 initiative to grow African Daisies on your pavement. These can be planted successfully in winter, and a number of Kensingtonians have already done this and we look forward to seeing even more bright splashes of colour through our streets.
- The project above ties in with our general encouragement of all Kensingtonians to keep their streets and pavements clean and litter free. Several streets are already in competition with each other to see which street can be the cleanest – our vision for this is that every street in Kensington competes for this honour! We have achieved some success with our litter bin campaign – much effort was put into this earlier in the year, and currently, we are on a waiting list and we have been told that we will have litter bins before the World Cup. But whether this happens or not, it’s still up to us to take action on our own. Some people have gone as far as tying litter bins around poles and trees in their streets, disposing of the litter and replacing them when they are full! Imagine how clean Kensington would be if someone in every street did this.
- Keep your eye on our various forms of media for initiatives such as the current one “beautify the corner of Queens Street and Langermann Drive” – can you spot the difference yet?? Our street corners now boast lovely new plants, all neat and spruced up! There will be other initiatives like this.
- Take responsibility for the outside of your wall – if graffiti is painted on this, paint it out again, and keep it nice. Every so often we have ‘paint out graffiti’ parties – you can be a part of this or give us your permission to paint your wall – where possible we will provide paint but donations are always accepted.
