CRIME AND GRIME

Sitting fortnightly with Inspector Ledwaba the new Sector Two manager has been an interesting experience, part of our mandate as the KRA is to assist the Police where possible in encouraging the community to get involved in combating crime. Inspector Fredie Ledwaba is certainly a man that takes his work seriously and would dearly like to see crime levels dropping and a safer community.

We have been discussing ways of assisting in the fight against crime so here are some tips that we have for you:

  • If you regularly park your car on the pavement and you have parking in a safe locked up area rather chose to park there.
  • Keep your pavement clean and walls free of graffiti this gives the impression that you are aware of your surroundings.
  • If there are street lights that are not working report them to Joburg Connect on 011-3755555.
  • Are there large amounts of litter in your street, if there are take the time to pick up the litter, a clean area is definitely a safer area.
  • Get to know your neighbours get their contact details along with their next of kin contact details ? in case of emergency.
  • Take time to be seen outside your property, criminals are nervous of too much activity.
  • Ensure that your property is well let all around and if you have dogs they have free access.
  • Be very alert when arriving home you are very vulnerable to hijacking in this situation.
